Alec W. Szczechowski is an experienced litigator who has practiced in many fields of law, including longshore workers’ compensation, federal employment law, construction law, insurance defense, and intellectual property law, including filing and litigating Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights. Since joining Lugenbuhl, Alec has primarily focused his practice on Defense Base Act claims and federal admiralty and maritime lawsuits. Alec has used his organizational and technical expertise to help launch his practice group’s capabilities to the forefront of modern litigation and client services. Alec’s practice group uncovered numerous fraudulent Defense Base Act claims, which ultimately resulted in dozens of claims against his clients being dismissed with prejudice. Alec’s efforts were recognized with invitations to speak at legal conferences in 2024, 2025, and 2026, and by his inclusion on some of his clients’ handpicked litigation panels while he was still only an Associate Attorney and all of the other panel members were partners.
Alec graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineer in 2015. While at Mississippi State, Alec was a member of the university’s robotics team, which competed nationally, including at NASA’s Collegiate Robotic Mining Competition. Alec then graduated from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2018. During his time at Loyola, he was a member of the Loyola Maritime Law Journal and served as its Managing Editor during his 3L year. He helped expand the journal’s scope to include aviation topics. During his 3L year, he worked as a Rule XX student practitioner in the Stuart H. Smith Youth Justice Clinic’s Children’s Rights division. Alec passed the Louisiana bar in 2018 and became a registered Patent Attorney with the USPTO in 2021. He is currently in the process of obtaining a license to practice law in Texas as well.
