Overview
Michael Herman is a member of Lugenbuhl’s Admiralty & Maritime Group, where his practice focuses on advising and defending clients in the maritime, insurance, and energy sectors. He provides comprehensive representation from the initial response to final resolution, often involved within hours of an incident, coordinating onboard investigations, gathering evidence, and working directly with state and federal authorities. Michael’s experience includes matters involving personal injury defense, vessel collisions and allisions, property damage, insurance coverage and defense, charter party disputes, and casualty investigations.
Born in New Orleans and raised in Chicago, Michael earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from Tulane University, where he also received a Certificate of Concentration in Maritime Law. During law school, he served on the Tulane Maritime Law Journal and externed for the Honorable Wendy Vitter of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Outside the Office
Outside the office, Michael is an avid supporter of Tulane football and enjoys spending time along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. This includes Lucedale, Mississippi, where he is actively involved in running his family’s cattle operation. The operation holds a special significance for Michael, who takes pride in the conservation-focused approach and management of its Brangus herd. He is also committed to community service, holding a position on the Board of Directors for Belle Chasse Academy, a public charter school that supports military families in Plaquemines Parish.
