Ms. Salazar has served as defense counsel in wide range of commercial-litigation cases. She has served as defense counsel for insurers, and has handled property-insurance cases from hurricane, hailstorm, fire, collapse, theft, vandalism, and other causes. Marjorie currently focuses her practice on commercial and residential-property insurance litigation, including breach-of-contract and bad-faith claims. She is admitted to practice law in the state courts of Texas, Louisiana, and Florida, as well as the federal courts in those states, and the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal. A native of Indiana, Ms. Salazar graduated summa cum laude from Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis in 1999, where she was an articles editor on the Law Review. While attending law school, she also clerked for the Honorable Jerry M. Barr of the Hamilton Superior Court No. 2, in Hamilton County, Indiana. After graduation, she began her legal career in New Orleans, focusing on commercial litigation, first-party catastrophe insurance cases, third-party toxic-tort cases, bankruptcy and creditor's rights, and nursing-home litigation. After relocating to Daytona Beach, Florida, following Hurricane Katrina, she focused on defending insurers in first-party commercial-property hurricane cases, as well as fraud cases. She first-chaired an intentional-burning-and-fraud case in Florida state court that resulted in a verdict for the insurer, and she has also second-chaired several first-party catastrophe claims in both state and federal courts. Before attending law school, she was in the tenth class of women to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point, obtaining a Bachelor of Science. She served in the Army from 1990-1994 as a Military Police platoon leader in the 64th MP Company, and as the 95th Military Police Battalion S-3 Plans officer.
